RAVINESTAR
Ravinestar didn't always lead a border patrol, some days had him too busy for that, but he was free enough today to do so and leaped on the opportunity to bond with his clanmates, make sure they were safe and that no outside cat was trespassing on their land or threatening them in any way. He had taken a few cats with him, including Novapaw and his former apprentice Oliveheart. They had patrolled along the new borders placed at the meadow, the river border with their rivals in ObsidianClan, the shore and forest area and then finally the border on the large clearing that separated their territory and the two-leg place a distance away. Ravinestar sniffed the air, looking for the scent of cats that did not belong to RavineClan. O L I V E H E A R T
2 YEARS OLD - SHE-CAT - RAVINECLAN WARRIOR
Loyalty is all that matters now
Today was a beautiful day, despite being rather cold. It was Leaf-Fall and the ground was stiff with frost, but not covered in leaves as the clan lived in a spruce forest, and all pines remained during the cold moons. She hated the cold and everyone knew it; her cold resistance was deplorable.
When the leader of RavineClan, her former mentor, invited her along on the sunhigh border patrol she gladly accepted and was very enthusiastic about fulfilling her duties during it. When passing by the river that bordered her clan and ObsidianClan, Oliveheart was brutally reminded of Foxshade and her breaking of the warrior code. 'If I ever see that tom again, I'll have him shaking in his flea-bitten skin,' she thought with a grimace.
After making sure every border was clear of any sign of a disgusting intruder, Oliveheart followed Ravinestar's lead as they headed toward the clearing border closest to the two-leg place. She turned to every cat present in the patrol. "Everyone keep your eyes out for any cats around this border, there could be rogues from the two-leg place nearby, they're a pain to deal with," she told them directly, then went to sniffing for any signs of outsiders nearby.

Novapaw had been so happy that Ravinestar had asked her to join her in the border patrol even if her mentor was going as well she was still happy. It had taken a long time for her to earn Oliveheart's trust. She looked up to her and wanted to be just like her. She walked right beside her keeping her eyes, ears and nose open for trespassers. Like her mentor she to believed that loyalty was all that mattered.
At her mentors warning her spine stiffined doing her best to take in every sound, scent and sight. As they drew closer to their border with the twolegs she froze with one paw in the air. There was smell of a strange cat that was definitely not from Ravineclan. She darted to her mentors side and whispered. "I smell a strange cat." She fell back knowing that if a fight happened she would just get in the way for she was still struggling a bit with certain battle moves. WORDS: 000 TAGS: 000 NOTES: 000

The breeze was cold, leaves falling along the ground left over from leaf-fall on the trees. The thunderpath was still, and so were the two-leg nests. Alongside a fence beside the forest, a small tom sat. His whiskers twitching, staring for a long time into the forest. As if waiting for the right moment to walk. From the front, he would seem normal, but at the side you could see a deformity. The tom had all but one leg missing, his back leg. All his life he'd wanted to join the forest, and prove he was at least worth something. Worth something to somebody. With a small bit of hesitation, he ventured towards the Ravineclan border. What happened now was in the paws of fate, and whatever path destiny had chosen for him.

Silverfang
The young she-cat walked among the patrol her ears twitching as Oliveheart spoke. "You could calm down a bit,you know?" White frost smell the air and regonised a strange smell."Kittypet scent."She whispered."Novapaw, don't stress to much, okay?" She said smiling.

RAVINESTAR
Ravinestar smiled at Oliveheart, finding it wonderful that she had grown into a fierce, loyal warrior, but also finding it amusing how serious she took something as simple as checking for kittypets. He could see that it had made Novapaw, Oliveheart's apprentice, to be more aware of her surroundings, and that was not a bad thing, Ravinestar knew that much. When Novapaw said that she smelled a strange cat, Ravinestar perked up his ears and padded over to her. "Is it a clan cat?" he asked, calmly. He waited for her answer, watching as his warrior Silverfang told Oliveheart to calm down a bit. He just hoped that it wasn't a rogue that the apprentice was detecting. Oliveheart was right, they could be a pain, more than a pain in fact. A lot of his clanmates had been killed by them in the past, including Sandface, Oliveheart's father. Silverfang reported that he smelled a kittypet. Ravinestar checked to make sure he was correct. "You are right," he affirmed. "I suppose we don't have much to worry about then. If the kittypet is anywhere nearby, we just need to chase it away." O L I V E H E A R T

Oliveheart looked up in surprise when her apprentice said that she had detected another cat. The small brown she-cat flattened her ears at the thought of an intruder in her territory. She was about to ask something, but Ravinestar beat her to it with the same question.
Instead, she heard the voice of Silverfang coming up beside her. She needed to calm down? She didn't know she wasn't calm. She thought it was good to be alert and forewarned of possible dangers; dying was a real possibility and that was a bad thing, especially right before leaf-bare when the territory was cold and they needed as many hunters as possible. 'Well don't blame me when a cat bites your tail off,' she twitched her whiskers in amusement.
"A kittypet?" she flattened one ear, sticking out her tail. "Not much of a threat, you're right."
Oliveheart knew that she got a bit excited when it came to intruders, even harmless ones, but she supposed it was better than being a traitor... like she had been about six moons back.

Novapaw's ears flattened as Silverfang told Oliveheart to calm down. She had learned that if she wasn't alert when doing the border a cat could sneak up on you and attack you. You need to be vigilant. She smiled and choked back a laugh at Oliveheart's comment. When Ravinestar asked her what it was she took another sniff and opened her mouth to speak but Silverfang answered instead. "Oh I didn't know you had changed your name to Novapaw, Silverfang. If you wish to be an apprentice by all means join me you might learn something." She gave a sniff and padded closer to her mentor. "But she's right it is a stinking kittypet." She had never told them that she had been born into the life of a kittypet, that would be a secret she would take with her to the grave. She had hated every second of it and hated the reminder of it when she scented the kittypet.
She knew she would probably get in trouble by Ravinestar for that comment but it was true. Wait what was that? A flicker of red? Was it a fox? It looked to dark of a red to be a cat. She was afraid to say something and then find out it was some twoleg thing. If it was she would probably be laughed at and that was the last thing she wanted. Novapaw could get rid of the itch along her spine warning her that it wasn't a twoleg thing. Swallowing she took a deep breath and spoke. "What is that?" There if they decided to go and explore it they could if not well that was fine with her to. WORDS: 000 TAGS: 000 NOTES: 000 Posting Order

The tom walked along a line of bramble bushes peering around he area. He would miss his housefolk, and the cats he was friends with. But this was his dream, and he'd promised himself to follow it. After a while of walking, he stopped, still. He scented something nearby.. cats! He darted into a bush, wincing in pain as brambles got stuck to his skin. He hissed loud enough to be heard, and sat up wriggling around as his collar got hooked on the branches. He sighed heavily. Was looking like a piece of prey in a trap the way he had to introduce himself to whoever was nearby? he guessed so.

Silverfang
"Well, who knows. I may have changed my name. And as well I could return to apprentice so I could stay closer to you and theach you some things." She said smiling, trying to get a rude attitude but it was pretty hard as she wasn't nervous.

RAVINESTAR
Ravinestar lashed his tail, signaling to keep order. "That is enough, you two," he chided sternly, though not overbearingly so. He just wanted to do so enough to remind Silverfang and Novapaw that they were on duty right now and any immature arguing of any sort was not allowed, especially when there was a task at hand. It was not necessarily a huge task, it was most likely only a kittypet, but it was their duty to keep focused. Of course, Novapaw was only retorting to Silverfang's rude comments, but still. "Keep focused. It may just be a kittypet, but we must make sure he knows our borders are borders for a reason, and to do that we must locate him. We can't locate him if my warriors are going to stand around bickering back and forth to each other."Ravinestar's gaze then softened, as he personally did not like telling his clanmates things like this. If it was needed, it was needed, but he would much rather be nice all the time. However, it was good he had the ability to do such a thing, as it kept order. Ravinestar's ears perked up in surprise at Novapaw's question. This could be very helpful information. "What did you see, Novapaw?" he asked curiously. O L I V E H E A R T

Oliveheart smiled and her whisker twitched with amusement when Novapaw her apprentice came back with such a good retort to Silverfang.
When her apprentice said what she did, Oliveheart looked to see if she saw the same, but the small brown she-cat did not think she did. Maybe she wasn't looking good enough or maybe the thing that Novapaw had seen was gone now. "Do you think it had something to do with the intruder?" asked Oliveheart, genuinely considering her apprentice's words, much like Ravinestar.

Spoken Words Novapaw's ears flattened shamefully as Ravinestar yelled at them to keep focus. She hated getting in trouble with her mentor and leader, she respected those two greatly and looked up to Oliveheart. She wanted their praise, and words of wisdom, not to be disciplined by them. She would have to work harder as punishment. Even though Ravinestar wasn't punishing her she would practice extra hard and wouldn't eat until every elder, queen and kit had eaten even if she had to hunt all night. But she still couldn't help but dislike Silvermouth. Out of the corner of her eye she spotted Oliveheart smile and one of her whiskers twitched which cheered her up some. Her ears pricked up again when Ravinestar asked her what she saw. Even Oliveheart asked her which made her feel proud that she had been the first to see it. Novapaw turned back to see if she could still see the red thing. Yes but just barely. She laid down on her belly and crawled a little closer to get a better look. "I'm not sure what it is, but I see something red, dark red like the color of a fox or something. But I don't smell fox. Could it be the kittypet?" She whispered so whatever or whoever it was couldn't here her. "It's just past those bush's, I think I only see it because all the leaves are gone and it's barely a speck now." She crawled closer making no sound as she did so.She thought she heard something thrashing lightly. "I think it's caught in the thorn bush." As soon as she said that she heard a hiss come from it. "Did you hear that? It was a hiss."WORDS: 000 TAGS: 000 NOTES: 000

Moby struggled around trying to free his pelt from the brambles. Even though it was well kept fur, it had become matted by this point. He hissed again scratching himself by mistake, whilst trying to cut off a bramble with his claws. He let out a small gasp collapsing on the floor as the bush let him drop. Bleeding slightly, he let out a soft whimper of pain, and got to his paws clumsily, shaking his head. "..Hmph.." he mumbled under his breath. The scent of the cats was still around him, and he lifted his head peering around. He decided to stay quiet, hoping nobody had heard. He didn't want to be seen in the state he was in. But he guessed it wouldn't go the way he had planned. With a small stumble, he started walking again towards the scent, keeping low to the ground. Hoping nobody would see his lost leg.

Silverfang
"Sorry Ravinestar. I just got distracted. And I am sorry Novapaw. Can you forgive me?"She said smiling and then watched as the apprentice went to the red something that could be the kittypet."You can come out."She called to the stranger trying to see who it was.

RAVINESTAR
Ravinestar did in fact hear that; it was a hiss. Could the kittypet really be hiding in the bushes right near them? "I will go look, you stay here and back me up if I need it," the gray furred leader said, lashing his tail, territorial, as he marched cautiously up to the bush that Novapaw had stated that she had seen a flash of red. As he drew closer, he indeed could hear some thrashing around, though he thought it grew quiet after a moment. "Hello, kittypet," he narrowed his eyes, though remained friendly. Kittypets were no threat, usually, so brute force or a harsh warning wasn't really needed in most cases. "Are you caught in there?"
Ravinestar was thankful for the kindness in Silverfang's voice. Ravinestar also wished to show kindness to everyone he possibly could; fighting wasn't always the best option.

Oliveheart was glad when Silverfang apologized, and instantly felt a gleam of respect for the warrior she-cat. Even though she was often rude sometimes, it didn't take away the fact that Silverfang was her clanmate, and Oliveheart loved her just like everyone of the cats in her clan.
When Ravinestar warned everyone to guard his back while he approached what could be the kittypet, Oliveheart flattened her ears and readied her muscles, preparing herself to fly at the cat if it decided to attack. She lashed her tail in the air with eagerness and a sense of defense, to defend her territory against possible threats.
"It is a kittypet, they're usually helpless, but if anything does happen, Novapaw," she hissed quietly to her apprentice, laying her tail tip on the she-cat's flank, "remember what I taught you."

Spoken Words For a moment Novapaw was determined not to forgive the warrior, but then she was a clan mate and a loyal one at that. So she gave a small nod of her head to let her know all was forgiven. She opened her mouth to say something but was interrupted by Ravinestar as he stated he was going to go and check it out, and told them to watch his back. Again another nod of her head, she crouched low next to Oliveheart her tail thrashing in anticipation and her claws sinking into the soft earth beneath her. Any sign of attack and she would dart in and attack the kittypet even if her fighting skills weren't great surely they where better then a kittypets.Just as she thought that she heard Oliveheart speak to her in a whisper. Yes another jerk of her head. "I'll remember don't worry, I'll be right by your side if we have to attack," she hissed softly. Her ears where laying flat to her head and her fur stuck up all over. She was thinking maybe she should climb a tree and get a better look when she heard her leaders voice great it and ask if it was stuck. She laughed silently, only a stupid kittypet would get stuck in a thorn bush so easily. Yea she had been born a kittypet but she had never truly been one. Novapaw had been wild at birth never letting humans touch her. They day she became free was the day she was truly born. Everything had come so natural to her.

The tom's fur bristled. Dammit! he'd been seen, by more than one cat. Lifting his head, he saw the patrol. His eyes widened. He heard Ravinestar's voice, and swallowed. He had a feeling this tom was in charge. He slowly let himself be know, raising his head narrowing his eyes pretending not to care about the pain all over his body. "..No" he mewed, managing a serious tone. "Im not stuck" he said looking at the cats. He felt so small compared to them, and the collar around his neck made him wheeze with annoyance. Kittypet, hmph..
