Nightstar had woken early and had gone out hunting, she had caught a skinny rabbit and a mouse and had brought them back for the clan. With them being in the heart of leaf-bare they needed as much food as they could kit. She ate nothing wanting to make sure her clan had enough food. But she ripped a small chunk off for her apprentice so he would have the energy to train. The night sky was dark for there was no moon tonight and wouldn't be one for another two nights. Though the stars cast light it was still much darker than usual. But that didn't bother her clan for they thrived in the darkness.



Reaching the apprentice's den where she saw Windpaw hanging around she dropped the small piece of meat. "Eat up where headed to the training ground to review what you've learned in the past four moons of your training. Tomorrow I'll be sending you on a hunt to see how you do. Me or another warrior will be following you but you will need to pay no attention to us. But for tonight I want to review your battle moves."

Windpaw was settled in a rather boring dream. He walked aimlessly around until the strange scent of strong herbs cause him to sneeze.. He was stunned for a moment and smiled, dreams are so weird he thought. Padding along he noticed a shiny black pelt. Though he could smell nothing other than the strange earthy smell he could only guess it was his leader... He tilted his head weird. He was about to call to her when real life called him to his senses. He blinked away the sleep from his blue optics and looked around blankly for a few moments. He shivered slightly but hoped his mentor hadn't noticed he refused to seem weak in her pressence. When food was presented he couldn't even find it in him to complain about it's puny size. He dug in, well after a few bites there was nothing left but it was prey, and prey was growing more and more scarce.  He dipped his head, "I will do my best Nightstar" he vowed knowing she would be expecting nothing less if he was to train with another warrior. He titled his head and smiled. "Do you think you can handle all this?"He said with  a wide smile, one he used so often it was practically who he was. After having thrown out the small tease he stood and joined her waiting for her to lead them away.

Nightstar stood over her apprentice patiently, apparently he had fallen asleep waiting for her. When Windpaw woke and quickly downed his portion of freshkill he finally spoke up. "I know you will Windpaw I' very proud of how far you have come in the four moons I've trained you." With that she turned and began to lead the way but barely took three steps when Windpaw spoke out again. A purr rumbled through her chest then turned into a laugh. "Oh trust me little one I can handle whatever you bring I'm sure." With that she flicked her tail to let him know to follow her.

She ran through the forest headed to that secret hollow she had only recently found. "Ok duck your head and stay close behind me if you don't want a fur full of thorns." Ducking down Nightstar actually had to crawl through the small space for about two tail lengths before she was able to stand up again. Once standing she shook out her fur and sighed. "Welcome to the Mossy hollow, this is where all battle training shall take place from now on." Nightstar stepped forward giving Windpaw space to come out of the tunnel. Her paws sank into the layers of moss that covered every inch of the ground within this circle of thorn bushs.

The young tom smiled as she praised him and from his moons he new it wasn't very often she would say such things. He lowered his head "Thank you Nightstar."As she returned his silly gesture with a bold remark. He gave a wide doppy smile and chuckled.  "One of these days." Before much else was shared she took off into the forest. He being large for his age found keeping up an easy enough task until they came to a thicket. He lowered him self as she did and scurried through with a fear of being turned into a pin cushion. "Will do" is what he offers when she told him to stick close. As they plowed through the thorns they soon emerged, and entered a rather pretty clearing. It was decorated with natures green fluff that he could recall playing with as a kit. He gave a smile, "Wow, it's perfect!" he turned to face her with a flick of his tail. He felt his paws mold into the layers of moss all around and he quickly lifted each paw as if afraid he would disappear into the mush. "ah" he laughed it looked like he was playing hot potato with the floor. He new it was silly, and looked up at his mentor. "Are we going to run over the stances or just leap into a fight?" he said trying to stop playing with the earth below.

Nightstar chuckled as she ran but hadn't turned around to reply to him. He was growing, she could tell he was going to be a strong warrior and who knew maybe one day he would become stronger than her. When or If that day happened she would be the proudest cat in the clan even prouder then his mother for she had trained him.

Once Hawkpaw stepped out of the small tunnel through the thorn bush's she laughed "don't fret you won't sink more than an inch into the moss. I like it because it will make battling harder. In my opinion, if you can master battling in this deep moss then you can battle anywhere." Nightstar turned and padded out to the middle of the mossy hollow before turning to face her apprentice. "Ok Attack me with a half turn belly rake. You remember how to do it right?" She stood ready to dodge at any giving moment.

As she told him to not fear he slowly stopped his silly manor of avoiding the moss. Once settled he tipped his head to the left as she explained why this place will prove so great for training. He gave a wide smile as she promised this was the key to mastering the art of fighting. He silently vowed that for her, he would master it! When she commanded him with a slightly more complicated move than usually he smiled. He was oftely good at remembering things and this was no exception. He crouched to slightly calm his nerves and sprung forward following the steps he had learned prior to this practice."Wha!"He had one paw raised to complete the attack when his left paw on the moss suddenly sunk slightly and instinctively he dug his claws in to stable him self. Only to fall on his face mid motion. He looked up with a frown and studied his paw anchored into the moss thanks to his own claws. He grumbled, "Now I know what you mean," he offered as he slowly detached him self from the evil green mesh.

Nightstar crouched low in waiting ready to spring backward at a moments notice. But as soon as Windpaw one paw began to sink into the moss she knew what would happen. She stood up straighter and watched as he dug his claws into the moss and then fall flat on his face. She purred softly and padded to him and untangled his paws. "You do not want to let your claws out while in here. If you let your claws out the will become tangled into the moss and you will fall, just like you did just now." She nudged him playfully with her nose. "Now get up and let's try that again. You'll know better this time."

Her tail flicked him on the shoulder as she turned and padded a few tail lengths away before turning to face him once more. Yes, now he understood why training here would improve his fighting greatly. If he could master fighting quickly and efficiently in this mossy hollow then he would be able to fight easily on the forest floor where his paws would not sink. Where he would have a clear path to his opponent. Yes, fighting here would improve his balance and his strength. "NOW AGAIN!" Nightstar ordered him in a commanding voice.

He once getting him self out of the moss crouched. Making a note to stay stable at all costs. He was about to comment when her command rang through the clearing. He gave a small blink. "Of Course," he said with a deep growl. Ready to fight her head on. He had trained hard and this moment this difficulty of training is just what he needed to prove his efforts. He followed the steps as before this time did not loose balance and was fast enough to make it a hard move to counter!

Nightstar could tell he had been about to say something but he must have decided not to or she interrupted him. Either or it was good he didn't they needed to train not talk. She crouched low in waiting. When he charged her this time he didn't trip or loose balance. Just as he went for her she pushed up hard and leaped straight up and landed behind him and nipped his tail ever so lightly. "Better but you need to be quicker. I could tell where you were going to attack me as well. When you go to attack don't look at the spot you're going to attack or you'll give it away to your opponent." Standing up she smiled that was better, so quick already in this mossy hollow where he only started to begin training in five minutes ago. When she had found this place she had practiced for an hour before she had completely mastered this place. "When you're ready try again."

He wasn't surprised in the least when his attack had proven unsuccessful she new what he was going to do, so of course she was able to defend perfectly against him. He nodded rapidly as she gave him a few tips. "Yes ma'm" he furrowed his eyes in concentration thinking about his speed and even more so balance. Once he felt ready he decided to try and throw her off guard and use an attack she hadn't asked for. Starting like he would have right before the time of attack he changed modes and towered up on his hind legs vs. his usual half twist attack. Hoping to throw her off balance with his weight.
